Find that freedom of time, not the absence of work.

I’ve not liked the term work-life balance for a few years now. Mostly because it sounds like two people in a boxing ring - Work vs Life - fighting for your attention.

But if you think about it, work is a huge part of life. Whether you’re building your business or professional career in a role, you spend SO much time at work. So if you hate what you do, no amount of yoga, green juice, or long weekends will “balance” that out. You’re just surviving five days to get to two.

For me, balance isn’t about drawing a line between the two, it’s about having the freedom to move that line when I need to.

Lunch on a Tuesday? Yes.
Emails on a Sunday? Also yes.
Time-blocked “fun” in my calendar right next to a strategy meeting? Absolutely.
Because both matter, to me, for me.

The business doesn’t need me always on.
It needs me switched on.

That one took me a while to learn. Early on, I thought “founder” meant “available 24/7.” Spoiler: it just meant burnt out by Wednesday evening.

Now, I believe in output, not optics. Systems, not survival. Working hard, recovering harder. I can take a break midweek without guilt because I know the work works, and so do I. It’s knowing that I’m allowed to build a life where work fits in, not one where it takes over.

I think balance isn’t about doing less. It’s about creating a life where you don’t constantly need a break from what you’ve built.

So if you’re still trying to find that elusive balance - maybe start by asking:
do you want balance, or do you just want freedom? Because one feels like restriction.
 The other feels like peace.
